find this Helen grew up in Brooklyn where her parents supplemented her literary collection of Dr. Seuss and Curious George with exotic Russian fables from their own childhoods. Her love for the written word got the best of her and she eventually studied Creative Writing at Binghamton University. Before graduation Helen received an incredible honor when Folio Prize- winning author George Saunders selected one of her short stories as a winner for the prestigious writing competition Summer Literary Series. Helen’s since written for women’s magazines such as First for Women, Redbook and Working Mother. She’s also penned many culture reviews and interviewed everyone from beloved author Jayne Anne Phillips to entertainers such as SNL’s Fred Armisen and actor Aziz Ansari. Her byline has appeared in publications such as SPIN, Time Out NY, Paste, BUST, In Touch Weekly and many others. In 2009, she collaborated with University of California, Berkeley’s esteemed professor of Community and Economic Development, Arthur Blaustein, for the creation of the book Democracy is Not a Spectator Sport: the Ultimate Volunteer Handbook. She later served as the head writer for Mark McGrath’s nationally syndicated radio program.
